Invited by Christophe Beaux, Chief Executive of Paris Minted Museum, the Chief Designer of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld designed a series of Euro coin mints to pay homage to the 125th birth anniversary of Coco Chanel. He incorporated the history of Coco Chanel and its classic design into the mint.

The iconic coin features Coco Chanel, adorning her signature hat with bowknot and pearl necklace on one side. The pearls and letters COCO outline the edge of the coin. With the signature of the design, Karl Lagerfeld, the coin vividly illustrates Karl Lagerfeld’s memory to the pioneering French fashion designer. On the back is the classic quilted leather pattern. Number 5 stands on the middle as an ode to the popular Chanel No.5 scent.

The coin was approved by the French Mint, and it’s been produced in gold and silver. The gold version costs €5,900, and there are only 99 of them in existence. The silver version is cheaper – at just €45 – and there are 11,900 of them. The Paris Mint Museum sets currency value of 5 Euro for both gold and silver version since 5 is a legendary number for Chanel. The Coco Chanel 5 Euro coins, exquisite in appearance and rich in culture, is indeed the rare invaluable collection.
