Christian Dior was born in the year 1905, in France on the French coastline, in a small town called Grenville. Dior lived in this town when he was about 5 years old, and then he grew up and moved with his family for Paris, France.
Christian Dior fell upon hard times, with the untimely death of both his mother and his brother, and he moved to the Soviet Union. He was hurting very bad financially, so an old-time friend of his gave him a place to stay and he also helped him start his career sketching dresses and hats.

Christian Dior started to sell his sketches, and some famous actresses loved them and purchased them. In 1941 when Christian Dior was out of the military he moved back to Paris — and he joined another designer by the name of Lucien Lelong. Dior stayed with him until 1946 when he moved out on his own, and got his own salon and designed for himself. Dior’s first show was 90 outfits that were worn by six girls.

After his first collection, Christian Dior sat long and hard and tried to think what the women of Paris would want as the next big thing in their fashionable clothing. He thought that women were sick of the broad shoulders, built for men, really covered up look that was going on during this time and he mainly decided to shake things up a bit. Christian Dior thought to himself that he had to ” Bring back beauty, feminine clothing, soft rounded shapes, and full flowing skirts). He wanted to make the women feel like flowers again like they felt in the 1930’s, and he called this collection the COROLLE, also known as the ring of petals collection.

Women all over the world were embracing this wonderful new look of the Christian Dior Dresses. For some reason though, even with so many people loving this new look, many people were also against it. Some models that were on a photographic shoot even had things as extreme as having their clothes town off of them, and some governments throughout the world forbid the line, calling the collection outrageous and wasteful — I wonder if they would feel the same today.

The Stones

Like an Art Nouveau stained glass window, one of the necklaces magnifies the glow of blue and orange sapphires with green tsavorits through the perfect form of the golden circle. Elsewhere, the daring of blue sapphires clings to the swirls of a necklace, sparkling with an evening light. Delicate monochromes or shimmering contrasts, the colours follow the forms, yielding to the will of the design and the demands of the creation.

Lorenz Bäumer’s curiosity for all things beautiful was nurtured from his earliest years by his father’s diplomatic career. From the time he was born in 1965, his family crisscrossed the globe to live in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Canada. This discovery of the world infused him with rich stores of extraordinary images and multi-coloured memories.
He inherited his taste for beautiful things from his mother, and steeped himself in the subtle sophistication of style à la française. At the age of sixteen, Lorenz Bäumer encountered the city that would later become his muse: Paris. He developed a taste for innovation and a thirst for new challenges during his engineering studies starting in 1985 at the École Centrale. An unrelenting perfectionist, he passionately pursued design in fields as varied as goldsmithing, furniture, and tableware. After graduating in 1988, he could at last devote his energies to his favourite field: jewellery. His first collections, presented at his Rue Royale home in 1989, enjoyed tremendous success. When he opened his fine jewellery showrooms on Place Vendôme in 1995, Lorenz Bäumer was only 30 years old.

An ardent collector who adores the visual arts, photography, and design, the space he inhabits is graced with a thousand artistic wonders gathered from the far reaches of the globe, all reflecting the depth and variety of his inspiration. In 2004, the permanent collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris welcomed four pieces of Lorenz Bäumer jewellery. Awarded the coveted Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres for outstanding achievement in the arts, he was also a contributor to the “Masterpieces of French Jewelry” exhibit in New York and San Francisco in 2006. At the 2007 National Jewelry Institute retrospective in New York’s famed Forbes Gallery, more than one hundred of his creations were presented to the public. His biographical book, Lorenz Bäumer – My Own Dictionary, was published by Éditions de la Martinière in 2007. Additionally, fifteen of his pieces were displayed at the Natural History Museum in Paris in the “Pearls, A Natural History” exhibit in 2007 and 2008. A new chapter is being written in 2009 year as Bäumer unveils a line of timepieces.

In 1975 the Armani fashion house was founded. And then he launched a revolution in fashion with his unlined and unconstructed man’s jacket. Completely loose and informal, the blazer offered sensual hints of the body beneath, marking a major departure from, on the one hand, the stuffy suits that straitjacketed men in the 1960s, and, on the other, the sartorial abandon of the hippie generation. The rumpled jacket was an immediate success, and a new breed of tailoring was born. Three months later, he unveiled an unstructured jacket for women. Made with traditional menswear fabrics, it was as simple and soft as the man’s and bore a masculine authority. With this alternative to long, flower-child skirts and classic French tailleurs, Armani joined Paul Poiret and Coco Chanel as an emancipator of women’s fashion.
