If you will be headed to Colorado, which houses some of the most luxurious ski resorts, Colorado will now also house one of the most luxurious fashion houses. That is right, the first Hermes store in Colorado will be opening in the NorthCreek development in Denver’s Cherry Creek North shopping district. The store will be a great size, spanning 3,000-square-foot, and will be located at First Avenue and Fillmore Street. The projected opening is late 2008, so while you plan next year ski trip, think of Denver. The Denver store will be the Hermes Group’s 24th U.S. store.

This season, we visited a fabulous place! A magic House! Once the heavy black doors of Hermes Paris swung open, we stepped in and the aura of perfection slapped us in our faces like a soft velvet glove.

Yes, perfection. The layout of the store, the incredible variety of items, outstanding in both price and quality, the overall flair of the three story store all just added additional weight to the already lowered jaw, like Mr. Universe was fish- hooking you personally. Absolutely breathtaking. Did we mention variety? From watches, card games, to towels, jewelry, perfumes, pen holders, from tables to evening sweaters, Hermes seemed to have it all. It was quite the task to even find a handful of items, no matter how seemingly insignificant, whose prices went under the 3-digit Euro mark. There is no use to talk about the upper boundary, since there really didn’t seem to be one. And then the bags… sigh.

Strategically placed right around its main entrance, a great selection of handbags, small clutches or large totes, were presented to us in a wonderful fashion. Our eyes ran across the glass vitrines, unknowing which bag to look at first, because they all seemed so pretty, so perfect. The green tote below was one of our favorites (if any of our readers know its name, please let us know), and fortunately it happened to be showcased to the outside world. We also took a snapshot of two barrel bags that just looked plain delicious, too. At a price of over EUR 4,600, the deliciousness wore off a notch though. We ended up spending almost a good hour in the store, leaving it behind with a really sad heart, and a motivation to work harder and earn more money to buy us some Hermes goodies. Because after all, who does not want to be one of those people with the orange shopping bag for once?

Hermes’new designer Jean Paul Gaultier changes work – now you can actually get the bag over your shoulder.

Due to its shortened height, the bag seems as long as an eighteen wheeler semi! Like Luella with her Baby Gisele, the logic step to an already successful handbag was to adding a shoulder design and appeal to a wider audience. Among the large variety of carry-alls that we’ve seen, this new shoulder Birkin sure is in contention for the throne. So damned appealing!

The new “pumpkin orange” shade will go for ￡4,000 (~$7,500). Stores around the globe hesitated with the large orders for the bag, unsure about how the new low profile would appeal to the customer base. In addition, a limited production is running on these treasures as well. Hence, the new Hermes Shoulder Birkins are even scarcer than the legendary regular Birkins.

However, since Jean Paul’s line had been intruded last fall, US sales for Hermes went through the roof. Coincidence? I do not think so.

Look at Hermes Kelly Long Wallet (officially: Money Holder)! The orange matte alligator is the quintessential combination of skin and tone from the House of Hermes. The wallet is made from matte Mississippi alligator and dyed in Hermes’ signature orange color. The gator version is denoted by the small square printed by the Hermes logo. This exotic skin is mainly reserved for Hermes’ smaller leather goods, larger bags are very rare in alligator.

This Kelly Long variety also comes in other leathers. It is available in mysore goatskin, box calf and epsom calfskin in a broad variety of colors. Yes, I know I am a dude! About a month ago, I still mad about the Hermes bag. However, one month later, I am fascinated by the luxury car manufacturer Bugatti. While the exquisite Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermes’ boasts the same 1001 hp quad-turbocharged 16 cylinder engine from the original Veyron, its distinct character manifests in the details.

The new Veyron derives its name from the historic Hermes’ headquarters on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honor?, in the heart of Paris’ eighth arrondissement. It sports eight-spoked wheels in polished aluminum, central butterfly wheel locks branded with the prominent letter ‘H’, and air vents around the rims aim to reproduce the characteristic appearance of traidtional Hermes’ saddle-stitching. The horseshoe radiator grille, and the lateral ventilation grilles flank it, are made from lightweight alloys with a design of interlocking H’s which evoke the Hermes’ signature. The inner surfaces of the Veyron Fbg are designed and sheathed in bull calfskin at the Hermes’ workshops in Paris by the same mastered hands that give us purse fetishists the coveted Birkin and Kelly bags.

The center console features a special compartment for the Hermes’ Globetrotter agenda; the leather-lined trunk holds a specially-fitted “Toile H” leather case. With a price tag of 1.55 million Euros (excluding taxes), the Veyron Fbg par Hermes’ will remain an unattainable subject of lust for most of us. The lucky, selected few will take their deliveries towards the end of this year. What an absolutely astonishing, most awesome and desirable vehicle, for car and bag fetishists alike.

Now it is fantastic time! We are on the road for Hermes visiting! First stop on the journey: Cologne, Germany.

Aside from its monstrous, intimidating and impressive, almost 760 year-old Koelner Dom and the beautiful Rhein River, there also appeared to be quite enticing shopping opportunities, potent enough to pull a whole lotta moolah out of foreign (and local) pockets. Getting off the ICE, we immediately found ourselves in the very center of town, right by the gorgeous Dom. After a quick detour into its chilly, ginormous nave, we headed right for two of our favorite, exorbitantly pricey Parisian Haute Couture fashion shops: Hermes and Louis Vuitton. Despite having forgotten to shoot pictures of evidence, you can believe us that those two stores are placed within one store of each other (separated by a Chopard store), conveniently located right on the plaza facing the Dom. This venue does ensure exposure to heaps of international visitors, either dropping by to get presents for the loved ones at home, or willing to indulge themselves with high-class goodies.

We first strolled into the LV store. What had already captured our attention from the store front was Louis Vuitton’s seemingly different Monogram Cerises line of bags. The colorful cherries exemplify a fresh and intriguing homage to Louis’ traditional signature monogram canvas – right in time for the fruity and fun spring. While the two of us don’t seem to agree on much at times, we both found the Louis Vuitton Sac Plat completely over-the-top – it seemed to lose LV’s sophistication in the cherry tree. However, Megs immediately fell in love with the $355 Louis Vuitton Pochette Accessoires for two reasons: first off, rather than taking away from the classic monogram that everyone seeks, the cherry only added a zing to make the pochette unique, and secondly the cherry came just in time to add a spring fling to an unwavering Louis Vuitton simple-style. Other than this new Monogram Cerises line, the store seemed a little small and showed a large focus on travel gear, like the Annette travel bag we previously featured. You think you are paying a lot for Louis bags in the US? Thanks to the lousy exchange rate, buying a bag in the US is a bargain, considering that you’d pay 25-35% more in Germany.

Saving the best for last, we then set foot into none other than the creme-de-la-creme Hermes store. Although my girl was dying to buy a bag, she couldnnot – for obvious reasons. What is remarkable about this store was the overall feeling of the sophisticated and high-class ambiance. Within the two floors, we did check out the vast variety of one-of-a-kind couture clothing and accessories, ranging from ashtrays to jewelry and beach towels. For a mere $450 you can get the towel wet, sandy, drained in sun screen and splattered with seagull droppings.

Just like Samantha on the infamous Hermes Birkin Bag search episode on Sex And The City, my girl immediately scoped out the hardware to see firsthand bag that even people who are rich and famous are only privy to purchase. To our disappointment, the Birkin Bag really is so rare and you really do have to be put on a waiting list if you’re approved to buy one. We still fell in love with the Hermes Kelly Bag. Like Samantha, we felt empty without the Birkin Bag, but Hermes still managed to impress us and prove that they are in a league of their own.

On a side note, we did run into a local aution house, which happened to sell 100% authentically fake Gucci bags for a mere 15 Euros a pop, leaving us extremely tempted to buy all five of them. Just kidding.

Overall we had much fun doing what we do best – tracking down the handbags that leave every shoulder unempty, every wallet a little lighter and every girl happy. Stay tuned for next week’s report from Paris, the fashion capitol of the World.

Imagine you are walking along the street with a little coin bag. You walk into the store feeling completely out of place. ‘My shoes are merely designer brand not premium designer, my shirt is from Banana Republic not off the runway, my bag is not a Hermes’, you think to yourself. Peering into the glass counter you encounter the perfect accessory to walk away with, a beaver coin purse. Must be about $300 you think to yourself, which of course is expensive, but hey, it is Hermes. You ask the SA with conviction about the price but in your mind know you can afford it. Right? Wrong! ‘$900 she states’. You sink back into your Banana Republic top and realize you will leave with a Twilly. You think you can walk into Hermes and spend a small amount of money, think again. Your best bet at a ‘cheap’ item is a Hermes Scarf Twilly, costing you around $125.

While the Hermes Ostrich Hedgehog and Crocodile Tortoise Coinbags are the most adorable coin bags ever, the price is even more un-affordable in my world right now. Thanks to billbill for the pictures and to wongnumber for the price estimations. The estimation for the snail is around $852, though possibly upwards of $2163 seeing that it is croc. The adorable ostrich hedgehog will be similarly priced since it is also exotic. After about $600, I cannot justify these, but if you can, do it- they are so amazingly cute!
